The Road to Kpop Summit 2016 S1

Kpop Summit is back! And it’s coming for the first time in May! We’ve heard you wanted more time to get things ready so it’s time to get busy as we prepare to shine on stage to cover our favourite kpop groups and songs!

This event is for people who are interested in performing at the summit. Interested? It’s fun and an awesome exprience! There are 2 ways of getting involved.

1. Courses
Here at XOkpop we’ll be teaching a number of dance courses to perform on stage. Theses will start soon, some from this weekend, and are a great way to be part of the show. We’ll release more info on theses soon!

2. Crews
Do you have a crew or want to get some friends together to perform? We always welcome crews out there to work on their own covers. However due to such high demand we do require a video submission to see what you guys have got. If you’re new, don’t be put off by the audition process, we just want to see your progress and make sure you’ll be ready! If you do wanna make a crew and audition there’s a bit more info you need, so we’d like you to nominate a crew leader and join the summit performers group. We’ll post a link below soon!

The event will be held on the 14th of May in Money Baa Darling Quarter Theatre. If you’re not into performing we always welcome people to come and join the audience as well! Kpop Summit is for all fans of Kpop, so let’s unite and celebrate the fandoms that we love!

New Absolute Beginner Courses for New Dancers! Try 1st week for $10!

Wanna try a new style or know someone who wants to learn to dance! Well come and check out our 6 week absolute beginner courses starting in March! Each course is designed for new dancers and is cheaper then normal when you pay for 6 weeks! If you’re considering, it’s only $10 to try the first week of the course to see if you enjoy so come and give it a go! Enjoy dance!

Each course runs for 6 consequtive weeks from the start date. Each course costs $80 for 6 weeks, or you can try the first week for $10 and pay $70 for the remaining weeks after that.
Suitable for new dancers and absolute beginners in the style

Courses:
Starting Thursday 17th
Kpop Choreos – 5:00pm
Like Kpop? Wanna start learning some of the dances? You can choose the songs we do each week! This course is mainly focused on Male groups like EXO, BTS, BAP but we’re open to requests!

Hip Hop for Absolute Beginners – 6:30pm
Want to learn the basics and foundations of Hip Hop? Join Danny’s class as he teaches basic moves, grooves and combinations.

Starting Friday 18th
Girls Kpop Choreo – 5:00pm
Like Kpop? Wanna start learning some of the dances? You can choose the songs we do each week! This course is mainly focused on Female groups but we’re open to requests!

Starting Saturday 19th
Hip Hop for Absolute Beginners – 1:00pm
Want to learn the basics and foundations of Hip Hop? Join Shannon’s class as she goes through moves and steps you can use to dance and have fun

Girls Style Choreo – 2:00pm
For girls who want to learn a bit about being sexy and have fun, come and learn fun dance routines and moves. Designed for new dancers no experience is needed, just come and enjoy!

Starting Sunday 20th
Breaking Basics – 3:00pm
Wanna learn some breaking? This class is for you, where we’ll teach you how to look awesome and be safe doing it. Proper technique and drills for breaking as well as the history and culture behind bboying will be taught.

Urban Choreo – 4:00pm
Urban Choreo is the style you might associate with music videos and commercial dance. Come learn some awesome routines to the music of now in the company of other beginners as Emily shows you how to dance!

XO Community Workshops March – Ling, Evie, Geny and Clare!

Crossover $12 Community Classes March February with Ling, Evie, Geny & Clare!

We have our March edition Community classes at Crossover for just $12, this will be our first set of Community Classes this year and we got some amazing new instructors for you!

When: Sundays 5pm at XO!
Ling – 6th March – Girls Hip Hop
Evie – 13th March – Lyrical Hip Hop
Geny – 20th March – Afro Dance
Clare – 27th March – Girls Hip Hop

Community classes are a platform class for some up and coming dancers, with lots to share with you!

Ling – 6th March – Girls Hip Hop
Hiiiiiiii I’ve been dancing for 3 years starting as a member of Soulxpress! My style evolved from girls hip hop to waacking to house and I’ve tried pretty much every style under the sun! I’ve worked with many uni societies and dance studios to put on performances such as MADSOC productions, Sxp, Mad unity etc. I’m really excited to share my knowledge with everyone! Get your girly on!
Also I’ve danced for artists such JJ Lin, GEM and Eason Chan!

Evie – 13th March – Lyrical Hip Hop
I’ve been dancing since I was little doing tap, jazz and ballet but was introduced to hip how a few years ago. I was part of Persuasia and now I’m currently a part of Fetch. I love dancing with lot of feels and grooves and meeting new people. Come join me!

20th March – Geny – Afro Dance
Belgium dancer with African background. I started with hip hop 10 years
ago but I danced afro all my life. My style have influence from
ragga-dancehall, hip hop and house. Back in Europe I have done a lot of
dance competition and gave workshop where I had improved my skills and
developed new ones.

Clare – 27th March – Girls Hip Hop
I is Clare! I started dancing about.. 3 to 4 years ago. My first class and style was Hip Hop and I gradually went to other styles such as Girls Hip Hop, Kpop (Typically :D) and Waacking. And I fell in love with all sort of girls style! I’ve taught classes here and there with friends and also for Uni Societies but this would be my very first official class! Come dance with me! Be friendly!

Unification Day 2016 Semester 1 – Inter Uni Soc Dance Battle FREE TO WATCH

Unification Day 2016 is here! It’s time to see which society can stand up, unify and take the unifcation trophy for semester one of this year! As tradition, all uni dance societies are invited to take part in the largest inter uni society crew battle in Sydney as D2MG, MODSOC, SXP, MDA, GC, Newcastle and special new challengers UWS chase defending champions UTSHHsoc!

Are you a member of any of the societies? Then it’s FREE to come down and watch them battle it out as they battle for pride, honor and glory! It’s all styles so prepare to see and awesome mix of street and urban dances to awesome music!

Not only that but following Unification Day, we’re going to have a whole week of cheap classes for uni students. Yes the infamous $10 week is coming back this year so come and try a class and learn some dance! You guys better train up because on top of that we’re introducing a new competition for uni soc’s later in the semeseter. Re-Unification will be a chance for the new society members to show what they have learnt throughout the semester, but more on that later!

For the moment, guys you soc colours ready, save the date and get ready to unify for Unifcation Day 2016 Sem 1!

Rules:
All battlers must be current members of the society they represent. Alumni members are allowed to stand with their society and advise but not battle. If someone is not a current member, their set will not be counted.

Battle:
This is a double eliination tournament. Each society can lose once, but on a second loss they are knocked out.
Society matchups will be drawn at random.
Each battle will last 10 minutes. Which continuous rotating music. Individual sets are maximum 45 seconds, meaning each battle will probably allow for 5 sets each.
In the case of a tie, a member of the executive team must battle to represent the society.
